Jason + Julianne + Family
There is no shutter speed fast enough in the world to keep up with 3-year-old Jason. And I mean that in the best way possible.
Mother Nature hadn’t yet received the memo that November is technically autumn…so on an extremely warm and windy Sunday, I met Jason, his 8-month-old sister Julianne, and their parents at O Melveny Park in Granada Hills. What a hidden gem of the Valley! Aside from multiple hikes that one day I’d love to explore, this park has a huge huuuuuge open meadow. And Jason, well, Jason likes to run. He LOVES to run. My goodness, I have never seen a child run so so free, and so fast in my life! And while sweet Julianne has not yet sprung her running (or even walking) legs yet, she peacefully, and rather introspectively, admired the surroundings.
What a dynamic it was to have Jason- with a whole grassy world at his disposal, and Julianne- a bit timid and shy at the open-endedness of said grassy world. It was only with bringing out one of Jason’s favorite books, The Gruffalo, by Julia Donaldson, that brought Jason’s running legs to a screeching halt. Being able to capture a child in midst of their favorite book is by far one of my favorite photographic moments. The awe, wonder, excitement, and imagination was pouring out from his eyes and body. It made me think of my favorite books as a child, and for a split second– could very much remember the warmth and love I felt sitting in my parent’s arms as they read them to me.
